Get to know the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood during your trip!

In 1805, Bernard Marigny began the subdivision of his plantation, creating the first suburb below the original city. Descendants of early French and Spanish colonists joined free people of color and western European immigrants, principally from Ireland, Germany, and southwest France in building a culturally diverse community in the early and mid-19th century. The Marigny Historic District boundaries extend from Esplanade Avenue to Press Street and the Mississippi River to St. Claude Avenue.
